Empowerment Through Equines: Promise Youth Program

For children who have experienced trauma or instability, traditional therapy can sometimes feel overwhelming. In the barn, the "therapy" happens through action. By partnering with a horse, youth learn to navigate complex emotions and social situations in a tangible, real-world environment.

Our curriculum focuses on three core pillars:

Building Trust and Connection

Many youth have experienced broken trust. Horses, as prey animals, are naturally sensitive and cautious. To win a horse's trust, a child must be patient, consistent, and calm. This mutual bond provides a powerful blueprint for building healthy relationships with humans.

Establishing Boundaries and Respect

Leading a thousand-pound animal requires clear communication and firm boundaries. In our program, youth learn how to "find their voice" and set boundaries respectfully, while also learning to respect the boundaries of others. These lessons in personal space and assertiveness translate directly to improved interactions at home and school.

Fostering Emotional Regulation

Horses act as bio-feedback machines; they mirror the energy brought into their space. If a student is frustrated or anxious, the horse reflects that energy. Our instructors guide students to recognize these signals and practice calming techniques (like deep breathing or grounding) to help both themselves and the horse find peace.

Our Promise Youth programs are primarily ground-based, focusing on horsemanship and equine care. This approach ensures safety while maximizing the opportunity for face-to-face connection and leadership development.

• Group Workshops: Focused on teamwork and collaborative problem-solving.

• Individual Mentorship: One-on-one sessions tailored to the child's specific emotional and behavioral goals.

• Vocational Training: For older youth, we offer the chance to learn the "ins and outs" of stable management, fostering a sense of pride and professional responsibility.

• Earned Riding Time: We reward consistency and growth; students who demonstrate the ability to lead and care for their equine partner safely are invited to progress to mounted lessons.
